Ownership

If you paid for it, you should know what you own.

Agency relationships become unpleasant when ownership is vague. Ours shouldn't be.

Our default

  • Your domain

Registered to you or your company wherever practical.

  • Your hosting

Contracted in your name wherever practical.

  • Your accounts

Analytics and operational accounts should be controlled by your organisation.

  • Your files

We hand over agreed source files and final assets.

  • Our work

Applicable rights in original work created for the project are transferred as agreed in the contract.

  • Third-party work

Fonts, software libraries, photography and other third-party materials may have their own licences. We document these rather than pretending we can transfer rights we don't own.

No hostage
situations.

  • We don't register a client's domain in our own name.
  • We don't deliberately make websites dependent on an agency-only platform.
  • We don't keep source files as leverage for a maintenance contract.

What we hand over

Depending on the project, a handover can include:

  • Website source code
  • Host and security-header configuration
  • Design source files
  • Logos and identity assets
  • Font and asset licence information
  • Domain access
  • Hosting access
  • Analytics and account access
  • Documentation
  • Contractual transfer of applicable rights in original work

We avoid absolutes on purpose. Third-party fonts, libraries and photographs remain subject to their own licences, which we identify and document rather than pretend to transfer. What is transferred, and when, is set out in the contract for each project.
